Former Grayslake leader seeks County Board Seat --Lake County Journal 9/20/2007

Former Grayslake Village President Pat Carey is hoping to return to public life.

Carey has announced her intention to run as a Democrat for Lake County Board\'s District 11. Therese Douglass presently has that County Board set. The primary election is Feb. 5, with the general election Nov. 4.

"I see the top issues facing Lake County as transportation, economic development, and environmental concerns, including flooding and preservation of open space,” Carey said. “We need to make progress on all of these issues to ensure a high quality of life for all Lake County residents."

Carey said that she now has the time to devote to county issues. Carey said she has had a good response so far. Endorsements have come from Grayslake Village President Tim Perry and State Sen. Terry Link, D-Waukegan.

Carey, a 25-year resident of Grayslake, got her start in local government in the 1980s as a leader in the Grayslake citizens group that successfully supported the preservation of Picket Fence Farms. It is now Lake County Forest Preserve\'s 1,225-acre Rollins Savanna Forest Preserve.

Carey was elected village trustee in 1989 and served four years before winning her first race for village president. Carey served eight years in that role, attaining a position of leadership among Lake County village presidents, serving as chairman of the Lake County Council of Mayors for the Chicago Area Transportation Study, vice chair of Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency (CLCJAWA), and an officer for Lake County Municipal League.

Carey spent 20 years in the corporate travel industry.

"I will bring more than 13 years of local government and 20 years of business expertise to bear as a member of the Lake County Board,” she said.

Carey plans on launching a Web site soon, and have several meet-and-greets and a fundraiser. Candidates file petitions to be on the ballot next month.
