Carey Announces Run for County Board in District 11

(Grayslake, Illinois, September 17, 2007) Pat Carey, former Mayor of Grayslake, has announced her candidacy for Lake County Board Representative in District 11 and will be filing to run in the Democratic Primary election on February 5.

“I see the top issues facing Lake County as transportation, economic development, and environmental concerns, including flooding and the preservation of open space. We need to make progress on all of these issues to ensure a high quality of life for all Lake County residents,” Carey said.

Carey, a twenty-five year resident of Grayslake, got her start in local government in the late 1980’s as a leader in the Grayslake citizens group that successfully supported the preservation of Picket Fence Farms, which is today the 1,225 acre Rollins Savanna Forest Preserve.

Carey was elected Village Trustee in 1989 and served four years before winning her first race for Mayor. Carey served eight years as Mayor, attaining a position of leadership among Lake County mayors, serving as Chair of the Lake County Council of Mayors for the Chicago Area Transportation Study, Vice-Chair of Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency, and an officer of the Lake County Municipal League.

Carey spent twenty years in the corporate travel industry, in various management and senior executive positions. In 2006 she left the corporate world to work again in the municipal field, joining the Village of Arlington Heights, where she is responsible for economic development activities.

“I will bring more than 13 years of local government and twenty years of business expertise to bear as a member of the Lake County Board. My record, including the expansion of the Metra North Central line, with a new station in Grayslake, and prioritization of funding for key road projects, such as the Atkinson Road improvements, demonstrates that I am an effective leader and communicator and can bring constituencies together to resolve issues and get things done,” Carey said.

Carey added, “We also brought 300 new businesses into Grayslake, responsible for more than 2,000 new jobs. And we laid the ground work for the Central Range project, which is important to the economic growth of Grayslake and central Lake County.”

State Senator Terry Link (Democrat, 30th District) was pleased with Carey’s decision to run. “I am thrilled that we have someone with Carey’s experience to run for the County Board. Her record of accomplishments in the field of transportation, the environment, and jobs growth will make her a great County Board Representative,” Link said.

Grayslake Mayor Tim Perry endorsed Carey’s candidacy, saying, “Carey has a solid record of getting the job done here in Grayslake. As Mayor for eight years, she rose to a position of leadership in Lake County and worked closely with County officials on key issues such as improvements to the Countryside Landfill, transportation projects, and recycling. Her knowledge and experience will be a tremendous asset as a member of the County Board. Grayslake, as well as all of Lake County, will benefit from her effective representation.”

Carey plans on launching a web site soon and will be hosting neighborhood events starting in October. In the meantime, she can be contacted directly at her campaign hotline 847-231-6538 or via email at pat_carey@ameritech.net.
